Pokemon Stadium was one of the first console based Pokemon game released in the United States and Europe. It allowed players to, for the first time ever, battle with their Pokemon in the glory of 3D.
Pokemon Stadium (or Pokemon Stadium 2 in Japan) was released on February 29th, 2000 in North America and April 30th, 1999 in Japan. The game's premise was simply a series of 3D areans in which players could battle with their Pokemon from the game boy versions, which is why there is no storyline in the game, as well as lacking the ability to capture Pokemon. Each game catridge came with an N64 transfer pack that allowed the player to upload Pokemon from his or her Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow games.
Instead the game focuses on new ways to test your Pokemon teams in several Stadium Cups that have specific rules attached to each, as well as battling through the Gym Leader Castle. The game also contained a Pokemon Lab which added as an advanced PC and allowed items and Pokemon to be traded between games without need for a link cable if certain conditions were met. Other special features of the game include an emulator to play your game boy games, as well as the inclusion of several Pokemon themed mini-games.
