Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow

Its hard to imagine a world without Pokemon. But it wasn't until 1996 in Japan and 1998 in North America, that the world got its first taste of what became a world wide phonemeon. It seems like the world was just waiting for dozens of little creature to love and battle. The game featured 151 Pokemon, which is compartively smaller than the vast collection of diverse creatures in later versions. The games themselves were very glitchy, opening the gate to several different cheats including the infamous missingno. Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Yellow became instant classics that managed to touch an entire planet of gamers.

Game Information

"Welcome to the world of Pokemon". That quote begins a tale of a young boy, setting out into the vast unknown, his trusted Pokemon by his side, in order to become the world's greatest Pokemon Master. Along the way the trainer will make friends, challenge enemies, explore dangerous terrain, and overcome impossible odds. In Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Yellow, you play as that very trainer and experience each and every new turn. As a trainer you will travel the Kanto region, hunting out Pokemon Gyms to challenge their Gym leaders for badges. With these symbols of battling expertise you may advice to the Elite 4, and finally to the region's own champion, to make your move towards the most coveted spot in the entire Pokemon World: The Champion.

While most people you meet along the way will be only too happy to aid in your endeavors, a certain band of criminal trainers, known as Team Rocket, wishes only to impeed your progress. During your adventure you will slowly creep into an evil plot, planned out by the Rocket Boss himself. The plan involve the overtaking a Pokemon Technology company in Saffron City and to begin forcing the scientists there to work away at insidious inventions. Only you can step in and save the company, the day, and the entire Kanto Region

With Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow also came the advent of the Game Boy Link Cable, which allowed fellow trainers to trade and battle one another. This interactivity was neccesary, because without it, one could never hope to obtain all 151 Pokemon hidden within each version. The games later were able to be used to play in Pokemon Stadium for the N64, and later for Pokemon Stadium 2 on the same platform. The three 1st generation titles also have the ability to trade Pokemon into the future, or rather Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal which were released three years later. While the graphics may not be pretty by todays standard, the music not as smooth, its battle system not as complex, it is only because of these games that we were introduced into a magical world where anything is possible.
