Critical Hits are one of the most rewarding, yet frustrating, game mechanics in Pokemon. Every single Trainer seems to have a story of when they were either saved or defeated by a random critical hit. But what exactly are critical hits?
Critical Hits, often also known just as CH, are attacks that deal for more than the usual maximum damage. Instead of dealing the regular 100% damage, the attack will deal 200% of normal damage. (Note: Pokemon with the Ability "Sniper" will deal 300% of normal damage). Just like all other stats in Pokemon Critical Hits are based off various stages, 5 to be exact:
Stage One: 6.25%
Stage Two: 12.5%
Stage Three: 25%
Stage Four: 33.3%
Stage Five: 50%
Now that you know the mechanics behind Critical Hits, lets look at ways to increease the chances of landing one.
There are five different items that can increase the ratio of Critical Hits.
| Name | Stages | Description |
| Lansat Berry | One | A Poffin ingredient. If held by a Pokemon, it raises its critical-hit ratio in a pinch. |
| Razor Claw | One | Raises chances of landing a Critical Hit. Evolves Sneasel into Weavile at Night. |
| Scope Lens | One | Increases chances of landing a Critical Hit |
| Lucky Punch | Two | If attached to Chansey, Critical Hit ratio rises |
| Stick | Two | If attached to Farfetch'd, Critical Hit ratio rises |
Another very common way of increasing the Critical Hit ratio is through special moves. All of the following attacks have a Stage Two Ratio rather than a Stage One ratio.

In addition the following attack boosts the critical hit ratio by one stage.
